"PROJECT BADLANDS"

FINAL PLAN W/ PERSPECTIVES

1/8"=1'-0

The focus of Project Badlands revolves around utilizing the site as a generator for sustainable design in complete isolation. Research/ data revolving geographic information, climate, natural orders of the sun and time has been gathered in preparation for the design process. The architecture serves as a travelers pause meant to comfortably house residents for 1-6 months and offer a powerful and uplifting experience revolving the surrounding environment. This project is based within the South Dakota Badlands and will aim to house artist, creatives, thinkers, and philosophers. There are 8 accommodations for seasoned sojourners, including the caretaker, which are all attached to a communal center meant for multipurpose gathering.

FINAL MODEL "DANCING PROMENADE" 1/8"=1'-0

Prompted to design a public asset to the city while allowing pedestrians easy access from the elevated city level, to the lower street level that oversees the Savannah River. This design is heavily inspired by the molecular human bone structure and looks to encourage movement, playfulness and rest. The interplay between light and shadow is strategically harnessed within the space due to the openings in the tarps that gracefully drape over the space, as well as the stairs and platforms. This manipulation of light allows for the space to transform into a visual spectacle that evolves throughout the day. The main area of rest is in the center of the promenade in which the benches encourage users to see and experience other users just as much as the seating encourages experiencing the architecture. The seatings within the columns allow for a more intimate space of rest as the placement of the seating is more secluded.
